Bob Marley: One Love is a 2024 American biographical drama musical film that delves into the life of the legendary reggae singer and songwriter, Bob Marley. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the film stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley, Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley, and James Norton as Chris Blackwell.
The story begins in 1976, amidst the political turmoil in Jamaica. Bob Marley announces his intention to perform at the “Smile Jamaica” concert, aimed at promoting peace among the warring factions. However, as Marley and his band prepare for the concert, they are attacked by assailants, resulting in Marley and his wife Rita being hospitalized. Despite the attack, Marley and Rita recover in time to perform at the concert, where Marley shows his bullet wounds to the crowd before leaving the stage.
Following the concert, Marley sends his family to the United States for safety while he and his band travel to London to record their next albums. Struggling with creative challenges, Marley asks Rita to rejoin him in England. Inspired by their experiences and the soundtrack of the film “Exodus,” Marley and his band create the iconic album of the same name, which helps popularize reggae music and the Rastafari movement worldwide.
